Zoom DBT Skills Groups

Four Skills Module Group

DBT Skills Groups generally consist of 5-10 participants who meet once a week via a HIPAA Compliant Zoom Meeting for 90 minutes. Group members learn skills based on the four modules of DBT: Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance.

The classes are offered in 8 to 10 week segments for a total of 26 sessions and focus on helping members acquire the coping skills they will need to solve their own problems and achieve their desired goals.  New skills are presented each week and homework is assigned for individuals to practice during the week. The goal is for people to gain new skills, improve the skills they have and be able to use the skills when they are really needed, especially during times of intense emotion, crisis or conflict.

Skills group is not like group psychotherapy.  It is similar to a class where members learn skills to enhance their lives and build a life worth living. Most insurance companies that reimburse for group psychotherapy will also reimburse for DBT Skills Group.

DBT Graduate Group

This group is for adult participants who have completed two cycles of DBT Skills training with a DBT therapist. We refer to this graduate group as a “Deliberate Practice” Skills Group, where participants decide which DBT skill they would like to deliberately practice each week. The group meets weekly and provides members with an opportunity to continue practicing and exploring in more depth Core Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Emotion Regulation and Distress Tolerance Skills which were taught in DBT Skills Class.

Before You Join A Skills Group

Every participant must be in individual psychotherapy with a provider of his or her own choice. If you think joining a DBT Skills Group can help you but you are not currently in therapy, please contact me to discuss your needs.
